I was standing in the middle of my messy living room, My laptop playing a cleaning video on youtube and my phone chirped. Oh! Facebook notification - and with it the instant gratification of someone finding one of my pointless comments worthy of a like.
My seven year old was sitting on the floor with my two year old. Doc McStuffin was playing at a deafening volume 45 and neither kid was even looking at it. They were to busy watching youtube videos and playing games on their tablet. However, when I tried to turn it off both kids panicked and decreed that Doc McStuffin was their favorite show and they would absolutely die with out it. Alright, then the tablet should go away, I suggested...and you would think I just sold their puppy. Tears, and pleading, begging and sobbing.. over a flippin' tablet.
THE BREAKING POINT
In that moment I admitted something that I had realized long ago, (but didn't want to do anything about)
My darling children had become two zombified minions who were addicted to technology ... and I was their Queen.
I couldn't rally the forces and exile their tech while I was holding my smart phone with my laptop blaring behind me. It was then that I looked around my cluttered home that I "Never had time to clean" and took a deep breath.
IT WAS TIME FOR A CHANGE
I was a Momma on a mission (and my minions may have thought the Queen went mad)
I unplugged my television and in a monumental moment...I pushed it out of the room and OUT of our lives. Next went the collection of the tablets, much to the hallowed crys of the assembled minions. Next went the wifi, my smartphone and my laptop to be sequestered untouched in my bed room.
It was then that I found myself standing in the disarray that had come from the mad queens cleansing and instead of clutter, I saw opportunity. I began rearranging, and cleaning in earnest. The change was like a breath of fresh air, I cleared the clutter and created an open warm place for the disgruntled minions to actually play with their toys they hadn't touched in months.
It's painful to share but in the interest of full clarity,..
